Eurotech Race Report - Thruxton21 May 2018 | Ravenol Marketing
Wix Racing with Eurotech headed to Thruxton this weekend for round three of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship. Jack Goff got a podium there with the team last year, so the team went in very confident following their win and a podium at rounds one and two. Brett Smith performed strongly in Qualifying, pushing his Type R into an impressive P3, his best qualifying to date. Meanwhile power issues coupled with a heavy ballast left Jack Goff’s struggling back in P14, whilst Matt Simpson managed P11 after having his initial fastest lap time disallowed for exceeding track limits. The hot sunshine reaching 22 degrees on race day helped to bring out a record crowd for Thruxton. Unfortunately once the green flag dropped on Race One, Brett didn’t get the best start and dropped down the order, but he fought back to a commendable P8 finish. Matt Simpson was in the thick of the action finishing in P12, and Jack brought his Type R home in P13, despite the 48kgs of ballast on board, producing a really strong points haul with all three cars scoring. In Race Two Jack finally managed to shed the ballast and worked his way up the grid to a good P8 finish. Brett made a much better start and was moving through the pack, until an off on the grass caused damage forcing a frustrating DNF. Back in the midfield, Matt was holding his own battles to stay in the points with a P14. In Race Three Jack put in the drive of the day with the Type R flying from P8 up to a fantastic P2 finish to end the day on the podium and continue the trophy roll. Matt also had another good fight to bring his Type R home in P12. Brett was again making good progress up through the field from the back when he sustained rear suspension damage from a hit at the Complex which meant he couldn’t continue. Eurotech said, "All in all, a very successful day, it looked at times to be disappointing but on the whole the team and drivers did a fantastic job, Jack’s drive in race 3 was phenomenal, Brett’s qualifying performance was incredible and Matt had brilliant race and qualifying pace and had three consistent strong points finishes so a great job all round." Wix Racing with Eurotech are now P2 in the Independent Teams Championship, just two points behind leaders Cicely Motorsport, and P3 in the overall Teams’ Championship. Jack Goff is P4 in the overall Drivers’ Championship and P3 in the Independent Drivers’ Championship. Photo c/o TJF Imaging |
