Behind the spotlight of Force India’s two main drivers, Sergio Perez and Esteban Ocon, is Reserve and Test Driver Nicholas Latifi.
The Canadian driver has worked his way up through motorsport via Formula Renault 3.5 and the GP2 feeder series, now known as Formula 2. In 2016 he drove a full GP2 season for DAMS and was also signed by the Renault Formula One Team as their test driver.
In 2017 he again competed in the renamed Formula 2 championship with DAMS and managed a win and 9 podiums, taking 178 points and finishing 5th in the Drivers’ Championship.
On the back of that performance he was rewarded by being signed as Reserve and Test Driver for Force India for the 2018 season, with the opportunity to prove his ability to those at the very top of the motorsport world.
Unfortunately, a serious infection meant he was unable to take part in pre-season testing in Barcelona.
“Disappointed I can’t be at the Force India F1 launch in Barcelona,” he posted on his Twitter account.
“A serious infection put me in hospital last week and I’m now recovering at home.
“Aiming to be back on track in the next four weeks.
Canadian Formula One fans will be pleased to know that as well as his driving programme in the Force India simulator, he will be back out on track at Montreal’s Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve for the Canadian Grand Prix’s Friday Free Practice session on 8th June.
