Volkswagen Racing Cup Heads to Rockingham for Rounds 3 & 427 April 2018 | Ravenol Marketing
RAVENOL’s partner series, the Milltek Sport Volkswagen Racing Cup, heads to Rockingham Speedway for Rounds 3 and 4 of the championship. Back to defend his title hopes is double Silverstone winner Dennis Strandberg with team Maximum Motorsport. Hot on his heels are team mate Chris Panayiotou and Slide Sports’ Owen Walton, but “Super Swede” Strandberg now has some new contenders for 2018: Power Maxed Racing have confirmed that Tom Witts, runner up in the Volkswagen Cup championship in 2016 and 2017, is to make his 2018 season debut this weekend at Rockingham. Witts will be working with the team for the remainder of the season on the development of their Volkswagen Polo, previously driven by Russell Joyce who has switched to a Volkswagen Golf MK7 from this weekend. Also back for 2018 is four-times VAG Trophy Champion and Milltek Volkswagen Racing Cup Champion Paul Taylor, who will join Power Maxed for the remainder of the season in his VW Golf Mk5 GTI. Power Maxed Racing Team Manager Martin Broadhurst told the VW Cup, “Having Tom as part of our VW Cup campaign is really exciting for us, and with our latest win in the BTCC, we’re confident that he will be at the sharp end from the get go. We’re excited to hear Tom’s feedback and developing the PMR built Polo further with him. “I was quite excited at the prospect of having Paul join us for the remainder of the season. We have been looking to bolster our attack on the Volkswagen Racing Cup and this is certainly a step in the right direction. Having a driver with as much experience and knowledge as Paul join us is a massive boost to us as a team, and we can’t wait to get going at Rockingham as we look to be challenging at the front of the Milltek Sport Volkswagen Racing Cup grid this season.” Qualifying at Rockingham will start at 14:50 on Saturday, with Race 1 getting underway at 09:55 on Sunday morning, followed by Race 2 at 16:00. Also at Rockingham this weekend will be the British GT Championship and the BDRC Formula 3 Championship, as well as support races from the Ginetta Racing Drivers Club, the Ginetta GT5 Challenge and the Mini Challenge. Tickets start from £12 and can be purchased on the Rockingham website. |
